One-to-one and group chat encrypted end to end, with media and receipts
Overview
Each device generates an X25519 key pair and publishes only the public key. Messages are encrypted on the phone with a shared secret from ECDH and AES-GCM, so the Node.js relay and MongoDB only ever hold ciphertext. Group chats encrypt a sender key for each member. Socket.IO carries messages, typing indicators and delivered and read receipts, and images are encrypted before upload.
